Adhesives for playground surfaces
Among the many applications of polyurethane adhesives, there is an increasing focus on those providing safe, shock-absorbing surfaces in playgrounds. In such applications, the physical properties of these materials become particularly important.
Components of polyurethane adhesives
Polyurethane adhesives are among the best synthetic bonding agents. They belong to the group of system products. This means that to create both single-component and two-component adhesives, two ingredients are required:
- Polyol
- Isocyanate
Single-component adhesives contain pre-reacted ingredients and form a prepolymer, which is applied directly to the bonded surface. The remaining two-component Puroxens require mixing these two ingredients in the appropriate ratio.
Materials for the manufacture of playground surfaces
Modern playgrounds for children feature surfaces made from soft, energy-absorbing materials. These surfaces are created from polyurethane adhesive and granules of:
- SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber)
- And/or
- EPDM (Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer)
SBR is a cushioning material with appropriately sized granules used as a bottom layer, combined with a suitably selected polyurethane binder. On top of this, a layer of EPDM granule adhesive is applied, which binds the entire surface, retains color longer, and exhibits greater mechanical resistance.
The aforementioned polyurethane adhesive is a crucial component of the surface. Its durable and flexible bonding agent exhibits mechanical properties very similar to those of rubber granules, making it highly effective as a component of rubber pours. However, flexibility parameters are key, comprising 10 to 20% of the total mass.

Our specialized adhesives for playgrounds are characterized by a long polymerization time, high mechanical strength, excellent flexibility, and low viscosity. We offer the highest quality products dedicated to both SBR and EPDM, including adhesives and priming-impregnating agents.
The adhesive dedicated to EPDM has additional properties that protect the upper layer of the surface from UV radiation. Thanks to these properties, the adhesive from the HMP series ensures color durability and resistance of the upper layer of the surface to damage due to use, while also mitigating the negative impact of weather factors on its aesthetic qualities.
